Cambridge 2011

In June 2011 we, students of 3DK and 3EK, spent nine days in Cambridge.
We stayed with host families, which made us a bit nervous. But all in all, the families were very nice and it was easy for us to understand them and communicate with them.
We spent four hours at school every day. The teachers motivated us to write and what was more important to talk and discuss.
By this means, we have not only widened the range of vocabulary but have also improved our knowledge of English in general.
The weekend was “fully booked”. On Saturday we went to London. We were impressed by this wonderful city and all the sights. First, we explored London by bus and then we were guided around by the social programme manager of the school who showed us lots of interesting sights and places. Finally, we spent two hours at Madame Tussauds.
The next day we went to Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace, where we saw the house he was born in and the church he is buried. Then we went to Warwick Castle. We were really amazed and had a great view from the tower of the castle.
On Monday after school, we visited the Hilton Doubletree Hotel which was shown to us by the hotel manager. Afterwards we were invited for a delicious Cream Tea. Nearby, we went punting on the river Cam. It was very funny all the more as some of us tried self-punting much to the pleasure of the others. Furthermore, we had the possibility to watch the students of the different colleges preparing the famous May Ball. We enjoyed the funny Bowling Evening a lot that day.
An interesting but tiring treasure hunt led us through the city centre of Cambridge on Tuesday. However, it was very informative. Later, we went to the cinema.
Besides, we visited the famous cathedral in Ely where a funny and witty guide told us more about the history of the cathedral. Of course, we had time for shopping.
